Paul Pogba Case. Why was he banned?

Paul Pogba is a famous and versatile football player from France and have played for Manchester United and Juventus as a senior. The football clubs that he has presented include names like Manchester United He is known for his FIFA World Cup performances, his creative play style and hairstyle of course.


When It Happended?


In August 2023, after a match between Juventus and Udinese, Pogba was tested positive for a substance named DHEA resulting in his suspension of four years from the game.

DHEA is a banned drug which enhances testosterone levels and elevates endurance.

NADO Italia, Italy's anti-doping body suspended Paul Pogba in August 2023.


Pogba's Appeal to CAS

But in February 2024, Pogba appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

His appeal included -


  • Denying any wrongdoing on purpose 

  • Reduction of suspension to one year

  • Nutritional supplement intake lead to the presence of DHEA


The Verdict


And the appeal to Switzerland based CAS did not go in vain.

It resulted in the reduction of the ban from four years to eighteen months

CAS on 4th October 2024 accepted Pogba's appeal on which Pogba got emotional and expressed it to the press.


Paul Pogba is planning on his grand return and stated that he is being driven by "anger" at his absence.

When asked by ESPN upon his return, he said


"I feel like a kid that just wants to be professional again, that never signed professional."


Paul Pogba also commented about returning into the peak when asked by ESPN, 


"That's definitely for sure. And I say this in a positive way, with more hunger and determination."
